Our Story

At the start of 2020, I decided that I wanted to start my own business. It has always been a lifelong ambition to ‘be in charge of my own destiny’, but life usually gets in the way and makes us – me – retreat to safer ground.

However, January is always a good time to reflect on your life and where you are heading, even if you are not one to make resolutions and for some reason that year, I was determined to fulfil that dream.

My plan was to create a home fragrance company. I have always been passionate about candles!  However, I knew that running my own business, alongside manufacturing my own products needed more than just ambition, so I booked onto as many courses as I could to learn my trade thoroughly, ethically and above all safely.

But this was 2020 – the year of Covid, when everything shut down: children were home-schooled and people worked from home. Not the best year to be starting a new business!

Undeterred, I eventually managed to attend a candle-making course in August 2020, between lockdowns, and thereafter I signed up for an online course where I achieved a Diploma in Candle-making with Distinction. I have since completed several more courses because candle-making is a science and "one wick certainly does not fit all!"

I realise it is an absolute privilege to be able to sell my candles to customers to be burnt in their homes. Safety is paramount and for that sole reason, I have spent the past two years researching and developing my candles to ensure that they burn cleanly and beautifully, whilst oozing exquisite scent into the room. 

The Whispering Flame is now a family business. All of our candles and diffusers are hand-made in small batches. You can be assured that we only use the finest quality products and oils, and follow The British Candle Federation and IFRA guidance.  The names reflect the feelings that the scents represent to us.
